Practice is essential for learning, helping learners
apply and re昀椀ne skills. This course explores how to
structure guided, supported, independent practice
for effective progress.
This course introduces educators to Inquiry-Based
Learning (IBL), a student-centred teaching approach
that fosters curiosity, critical thinking, and problemsolving. Participants will explore different types of
IBL, its types, bene昀椀ts and challenges, including
structured, open-ended, problem-based, and
guided inquiry.
Educators will learn strategies to optimise retention,
skill development and lesson engagement while
evaluating practice impact. The course also
develops competencies in motivating, challenging
and extending learning, planning engaging lessons,
problem-solving, metacognition and critical
thinking.
Course outcome: Educators will gain skills to
help learners take responsibility for their learning,
promoting independence and long-term growth.
This course also examines the bene昀椀ts of IBL, such
as enhanced creativity, real-world connections, and
increased student engagement. Finally, the course
offers practical guidance on overcoming challenges
and creating an environment that supports active,
inquiry-driven learning across various educational
contexts.
Course outcome: Educators will improve their
knowledge of Inquiry-Based learning and how it
might be implemented in practice, creating an
environment that supports active, inquiry-driven
learning.
