Text A – Helping Miss Ahmed
by Kate Ruttle
Miss Ahmed looked at the classroom. There was paint all over
the tables.
“This room is chaotic,” she said. “After
playtime, we will all help to tidy it up.”
The children lined up and they went out
to play.

“Let’s give Miss Ahmed a surprise,”
Jasmine suggested. “Let’s sneak back in and tidy up while she’s
having her coffee.”
“Okay,” said Raj. “But we had better be quick.”
Jasmine picked up loads of dirty paint pots and brushes. Raj
filled a bowl with water and started wiping the tables.
Jasmine couldn’t see where she was going. She bumped into Raj.
Splash! His bowl of water flew up into the air.
“Ouch!” Jasmine let go of the paintbrushes
and paint flew everywhere.
The children looked at each other in
horror. Now there was a spreading puddle
of dirty water. There was paint on the floor,
the tables, and the walls and even on
the ceiling.
“Oh no!” Jasmine wailed. “What will Miss Ahmed say?”
