Rocket Phonics brochure 2025 - Flipbook - Page 3
An introduction from
Abigail Steel,
Rocket Phonics author
Everywhere I go, I’m meeting teachers who quietly admit that their current phonics
programme is not leading to expected results. Often, a phonics programme’s
content amounts to just a few terms of teaching. Or the pace is too fast leading to
children being left behind. Another reoccurring problem is the lack of enjoyment
for teachers and children. Rocket Phonics will change this.
The approach is straightforward and logical (no elaborate routines to learn here!)
and designed to ensure every child will keep up and not need to ‘catch-up’. In the
SSP programme, you will teach two letter-sounds per week rather than the usual
four. Blending and segmenting are separated to allow for more practice of each
core phonics skill.
Consistent reading and writing practice and application are embedded
throughout. However, I encourage schools to adapt practice activities to suit the
needs of their learners.
Story is at the heart of Rocket Phonics. The Big Books are all original stories which
immerse children in different worlds and characters helping them to learn and
revise phonics in context.
I can’t wait for even more schools to discover Rocket Phonics and have their
phonics transformed!
